What to Ask Your Dog Walker

Some dog owners require the services of a dog walker to ensure that their dogs get the exercise they need. You wouldn’t leave your baby with a babysitter without asking some important questions and the same goes for your dog. Here are some important questions to ask your potential dog walker:

How much experience do you have with dogs?

I’m not saying that a teenage animal lover who has just started walking dogs to make some cash on the side can’t be a good dog walker. But if I had a potentially dog aggressive bullmastiff, who could probably drag said teenager down the street in chase of another dog, I would opt to find someone else. In other words, make sure that the dog walker can handle your dog and its possible issues (if any).

How many dogs do you walk simultaneously?

Most dog walkers understandably walk more than one dog at a time. It’s important to know how many dogs the dog walker will be responsible for at the same time as yours. If the dog walker is walking 10 dogs at once, your dog probably won’t get much individual attention.

What route do you take?

Your dog walker should be able to tell you the general route he or she takes when walking your dog.

Do you keep dogs on the leash at all times?

It’s always good to know if your dog will remain on the leash during its walk. Most dog walkers tend to do this for safety reasons, but it’s always good to double check.

Also, remember to let your dog walker know your dog’s general personality and anything that might cause an issue. Does your dog run off when not on leash? Does your dog like to play with other dogs? Is your dog aggressive to people or other animals? Is your dog allergic to something? All of these things will be useful and good for the dog walker to know.
