Disc Dog is an excellent sport to try with your dog for both fitness and fun. Work as a team with your dog and participate in different formats of Disc Dog, such as Toss and Fetch short distance events, Freestyle choreographed events, and long distance disc dog events. Disc dog can also be a great therapeutic activity for dogs who have been abandoned or suffered abuse or trauma previously in life. Catching a Frisbee is a great way for them to channel aggression or hyperactivity into a positive activity.
Dogs Best Suited for Disc Dog
- Breed: Any. Many mixed breed dogs and dogs from shelters have gone on to be Disc Dog champions.
- Age: Disc Dog training can usually start at 1.5-2 years old. The larger the dog, the longer you should wait. Disc Dog requires a lot of jumping for the dog – you must be sure that your dog’s bones are fully developed before undertaking any sort of jump training.
- Size: Any. Most common dogs in competition tend to be of medium to large size.
- Training: Obedience, focusing on fetching and recall.
