Do Dogs Sweat?

Do dogs sweat? Some people think that dogs are unable to sweat. This is a common misconception. A dog’s main method of heat regulation is panting. However, dogs do sweat in addition to panting. Dogs’ pawpads sweat and you can sometimes witness wet paw marks on the sidewalk if you take your dog for a walk or run in the heat. In addition to your dog’s paws, it also has sweat glands on its nose. When your dog’s hot you may notice its nose becoming damp and this is likely to be sweat. Dogs may not sweat much and sweating may not do nearly as much to regulate their body temperature as panting for dogs, but they do sweat like we do.

To make it even more confusing, dogs have sweat glands all over their bodies as well, but they do not sweat out of these glands. It’s suspected that these sweat glands are there for the purpose of pheromone production.
